Convention in Chaos
August 2 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
The 1968 Democratic Convention shocked America. Protesters filled the streets to protest the Vietnam War. Chicago police responded with violence. Delegates condemned the city’s actions on live TV while Mayor Daley angrily shouted back. Please join us as Mark DePue moderates a 50th anniversary discussion of the convention with four people who saw it firsthand:
– Alderman Ed Burke was a Chicago police officer manning the line at the time.
– Dick Simpson was the Illinois chairman for the Eugene McCarthy campaign.
– Bernard Sieracki was a young college student, recently discharged from the Army.
– Taylor Pensoneau was the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter.
Enjoy a wine and cheese reception following the event, generously sponsored by Bill and Julie Cellini.
