Famous Artists: A series of classes for children
December 30 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Cathy Ganschinietz will be teaching a series of classes for students that will meet monthly on the last Sunday of each month from 1:00-3:00. Suggested ages are 12-17. If there is sufficient interest among younger children (suggested ages 7-12), we will offer a second series of classes that will meet afterwards from 3:30-5:30. Please call Daisy Jane’s (217-622-7183) if you have any questions about this.
Each class will give an overview of the artist, a little history, and a lot of experimentation with the style of the featured artist. The intent of the classes is to give basic art appreciation knowledge at an appropriate level and a freedom for children to know that it is okay to experiment and mimic the greats in order to learn. This will be the class schedule:
January Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali
February Georgia O’Keefe and Winslow Homer
March Henri Matisse
April Georges Seurat
May Claude Monet and Mary Cassatt
July Vincent van Gogh
August Paul Cezanne
September Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock
October Auguste Renoir and Edgar Degas
November Leonardo da Vinci
December Paul Klee
The cost for each 2-hour class is $30 per student. The total cost for the 12-month series of classes is $360, or $310 when paid in advance. There will be a limit of 6 students per class, so we encourage friends or siblings wanting to be in the same class to register and pay together.
If your student has an art apron, they should bring it to class. They may also bring their own scissors or paint brushes. We will provide all of the materials necessary for completion of the day’s project. Please call with any questions or to register. This will be both educational and a fun series of classes with a wonderful teacher.
