June 21 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
An Illinois Medal of Honor Recipient
On March 28, 1896, Captain Samuel Hymer of Company D 115th Illinois Volunteer Infantry was the
recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor for his “gallant” action in defending a blockhouse during
the Civil War. This presentation by historian Brian Schmidt is the story of Company D 115th Illinois
Volunteer Infantry and the famous, yet little known, events that led to Hymer’s honor.
