Racial Injustice of Sundown Towns

The racial injustice of Sundown Towns is the topic of this Sangamon County Historical Society program. The event is co-sponsored by the Springfield and Central Illinois African American History Museum and is free and open to the public.

Logan Jaffe, a reporter for the Chicago-based ProPublica Illinois, has taken a fresh look at a Sunset Town in Illinois and will share her findings about contemporary Anna in Union County. Her article “The Legend of A-N-N-A: Revisiting an American Town Where Black People Weren’t Welcome After Dark,” was jointly published with ProPublica in the November 2019 edition of Atlantic Monthly.

Jaffe has an extensive media background including as a reporter and producer for various investigative projects of The New York Times and Chicago Public Media (WBEZ). She is the recipient of the Chicago Filmmakers’ Digital Production Fund for “Battle Flag,” an interactive documentary. Jaffe earned a degree in photojournalism from the University of Florida.
