This weekend the Hoogland Center presents the drama “A Raisin in the Sun”. Nominated for four Tony Awards when it was originally staged in 1960, “A Raisin in the Sun” is a monumental piece of American theater that explores generational differences, race and gender roles, and the importance of morality. The characters are believable and heartbreaking, well-realized human beings, and their struggles against prejudice and hardship are as meaningful now as they were decades ago. Performances are in Theatre III with general admission seating on Nov. 11-13. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday performances are at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults, and $16 for seniors over 60 and students. To order tickets call (217) 523-2787.

Showing this November, “Crimes of the Heart” is a delightful, dark comedy presented by the Springfield Theatre Centre which follows three sisters who struggle with each of their own personal situations. Lenny, the oldest sister, is thirty and unmarried; Meg, the middle sister, is struggling with a failed singing career; and Babe, the youngest, is out on bail after having shot her husband. Their troubles, grave and yet somehow hilarious, are highlighted by their self-righteous cousin and by the awkward young lawyer who tries to keep Babe out of jail while helpless not to fall in love with her. Can these sisters escape the past to seize the future? Find out at “Crimes of the Heart”. The show runs Nov. 11 – 14 and 18 – 20 in the LRS Theatre. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8:00 p.m., and Sunday performances are at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults, and $16 for seniors over 60 and children under 12. To order tickets call (217) 523-2787.
