Downtown Springfield Heritage Foundation

The Downtown Springfield Heritage Foundation is currently building a new web presence. Stay tuned!

The mission of the Downtown Springfield Heritage Foundation, a 501c3, is to support, enhance, promote and preserve the historic, architectural, artistic and cultural heritage of the City of Springfield and the hometown area of Abraham Lincoln through education, preservation and beautification.

January 15, 2019: The Heritage Foundation has released an RFP to sell the property at 312 E Adams with the goal of putting it back on to the tax rolls quickly. Download the RFP for 312 E Adams and respond with your interest by February 15, 2019.

Per the RFP, questions were due by close of business on Friday, February 1.

Q: Do you have a dimensional drawing of the structure?

A. Click the links for the shell plans for 312 1st Floor and 312 2nd-3rd Floors.

Q: Is there natural gas service to the building?

A: According to Ameren, there is not.

Clarification: No formal code analysis has been completed regarding this potential renovation and the respondents should anticipate the need to perform their own building code evaluation. Any informal conversations that occurred during the walk-throughs of the building do not reflect the formal position of the Heritage Foundation.

The Foundation was created in 1999 by the leadership of the downtown business association, recognizing the need for a charitable organization to undertake some of the revitalization challenges, including accepting donation of properties and coordinating new ownership in order to preserve Lincoln-era buildings.

One of its most popular saves was the 125 year old Bunn-Sanky House, which after a year and a half of renovation, became the new home for the law firm, Wolter, Beeman & Lynch in 2010.

In recent years, the Foundation has also sponsored DSI’s Amaranth Apple Festival and Old Capitol Holiday Walks; and won a grant to help activate the Old State Capitol Plaza with new colorful seating to add to the new lights and family games.

Please contact us if you know of a downtown property that we may facilitate saving>

The Foundation also accepts charitable monetary donations to further its mission. Please send your donation by check to:
