DSI’s Art Alley III

Local artists Alli Addicks, Alex Rothschild, Kristin Diehl, Felicia Olin and Jim Edgecomb, Cassandra Pence Ostermeier, and Mikayala Jean will compete to finish a one-day mural.

Our Third Annual Art Alley Pop-up event is a version of the hit TV show “Project Runway.” Six local artist teams will compete to create a mural in only one day, and unveil it at our Reception Party that same night. The muralists will get feedback and awards from judges at the Reception Party, including Miss Illinois Ariel Beverly who is a former Art Educator whose platform is increasing Art Education in our schools. Plus you’ll have the opportunity to vote for your favorite to win People’s Choice.

Thanks to our sponsors Solomon Colors and Springfield Electric, plus Don Smith Paints who is providing the “Brush Rush” before the painting day, when our artists will pick out their supplies donated by Don Smith Paints, just like when the Project Runway contestants visit “Mood” to pick out their samples.

You can swing by during the day to watch the muralists paint for free. To support beautification projects like this through Downtown Springfield Inc, buy a ticket (for only $10 online in advance) and join us at the Reception Party this evening. Advance tickets are five dollars cheaper than at the door the evening of the event (at the door is $15 admission).

The Alley is located on the west side of 5th Street across from the Old State Capitol, between Washington and Adams.

Kidzeum, located only a block away, is hosting a Parents Night Out during this Reception Party so you could drop off the kids there for educational fun and dinner and enjoy a big-city art event!

Rain date is Sunday, September 15.

Calling Artists for 2019 Art Alley Challenge

Artist Immanuel Ahiable greeting friends and family during our first Art Alley Pop Up.

This year’s Art Alley III Pop Up takes place on Saturday, September 14 — with a twist. Seven selected artists or artistic teams will “compete” by completing a mural in only one day. As night falls, we’ll gather for our Pop Up Party, where guests can vote for their favorite mural — so that we can give the artists prizes! — and to celebrate Springfield’s artistic community.

Tickets are not yet available but all proceeds will benefit DSI’s ARTification Public Art Program.

The Call for Artists has been released thanks to our partners at Springfield Art Association. Please download the Call for Artists and apply today: Art Alley III Mural Competition Call FINAL
