Bourbon, Brisket, & Blues

Join us on Wednesday July 31, 5:30-7:30 pm for a unique event benefiting the Dana-Thomas House Foundation Neighborhood Improvement Project.

Enjoy Bourbon, Brisket and Blues at Venue 1929, 711 South Fifth Street, Springfield, IL.

Admission includes one bourbon tasting and a delicious brisket sandwich plate with baked beans and coleslaw. Additional bourbon tastings available at $5. Fine tastings from the personal collections of local bourbon aficionados at $10 and tastings of extra fine bourbon personally chosen by bourbon expert Roger Huebner at $25 each.

Uptown Friday Night: David Lumsden Blues Band

For over 20 years, the Springfield Area Arts Council has partnered with Archer Bailey and Robbie’s Restaurant on Old State Capitol Plaza South to present a weekly jazz and blues performance series. Held weekly from 5:30 – 7:30 PM, attendees enjoy fine food, beverages and great music. There is no cover charge but a 50/50 raffle is held with proceeds benefiting the programs of the Arts Council.

The Whole Family of Man: Music of Lincoln’s America

The Whole Family of Man: Music of Lincoln’s America presented by Lincoln Home NHS welcomes Sones de México. A Chicago based ensemble, Sones de México is the nation’s premier Mexican folk music organization specializing on Mexican “son”,  a genre encompassing the roots of mariachi music and other regional styles. With their music and performance they will take their audience on a journey through México!

Music at the Museum

The Sweet Potatoes come out of Southern California to dish up their own unique blend of country, folk and homespun Americana. Featuring acoustic guitars, accordion and harmonica, their music has a back porch charm all its own.

Kelly Macleod (songwriter, guitar, and vocals) and Laura Hall (songwriter, guitar, accordion and vocals) and Rick Hall (bass, harmonica and vocals) have all been in show business in one way or another for years. Kelly cut her teeth singing in the band Private Life. Laura is best known as the pianist on the long running hit TV show, Whose Line Is It Anyway, while Rick’s day job is as an actor on TV, doing everything from Centrum commercials, to NCIS. Kelly and Laura write write original songs rooted in the family ties that made them the women they are today; songs about finding and appreciating love, having faith, family and home.

The Whole Family of Man: Music of Lincoln’s America presented by Lincoln Home NHS welcomes duo Common Chords. Musicians Robert Jones and Matt Watroba are here to build communities through music and art. By combining blues and folk music, Common Chords showcases the roots of American music, the beauty of diversity, while teaching the audience about past traditions.

Bridget Kelly Band plays Blue Monday

Bridget Kelly Band is an electric blues band that rocks the house with their unique blend of hot smokin’ blues. Along with playing originals, they also perform music of B.B. King, T. Bone Walker, Muddy Waters, Etta James, and Bonnie Raitt. The band’s original compositions have been featured on WXJZ Smooth Jazz in Gainesville, FL. as well as radio shows throughout the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, Italy, Germany, and France. The group performs at a wide variety of music venues, clubs, concerts, and festivals across Florida and the US and have shared the stage with numerous recording and touring blues artists including Albert Castiglia, Willie Green, Jeff Jensen, Brandon Santini, Biscuit Miller, & Victor Wainwright. Bridget Kelly fronts the band with sultry blues vocals and Tim Fik smokes a thrilling blues guitar. The Bridget Kelly Band won the NCFBC International Blues Challenge and competed in Memphis in January 2016. They made the IBC Semifinals 2016!!! The Bridget Kelly Band were also semifinalists in the International Blues Challenge 2015.
