Great music and great food equal good times in downtown Springfield on Saturday, July 12, 2008. Join your family, friends, and thousands of community members in celebrating the 9th annual Taste of Downtown. Held on 5th Street between Jefferson and Adams Streets, this summer celebration will last from noon until midnight and is sure to please all age groups.

Seventeen downtown restaurants (Andiamo, Augie’s Front Burner, Boone’s Uptown Grill, Café Brio, Café Moxo, Caitie Girl’s, Coney Island, Head West, Holy Land Diner, Lindsay’s, Maldaners, Pizza Machine, Quiznos, Sazerac, Sebastian’s Hideout, Tea-Licious Café, Z Bistro) are setting up tent so you can “taste” their specialty dishes. Menus range from hot dogs, burgers, blue cheese nachos, blackened shrimp tacos and pecan encrusted chicken, and let’s not forget about dessert. Strawberry shortcake or gelato, anyone? Food and beverage tickets are $1 each, and no single menu item will cost more than $5. A variety of beer, wine, soft drinks and specialty cocktails will also be available for purchase.

The children’s area provides numerous activities for entertaining the younger attendees of Taste of Downtown. Jugglers, magicians, and dancers are scheduled to perform from noon until 5 PM.

The main stage, located at the northern end of this event, will house a variety of musical performers for your listening and dancing pleasure. The American Music Show is pleased to announce the following line-up: Eva Hunter Band (2 PM), The Hi-Risers (4 PM), Marti Brom w/Rocky Velvet (6 PM), Dale Watson (8 PM) and the Deadstring Brothers (10 PM).

Those attending Taste of Downtown can enter at the intersections of Fifth and Adams, Fourth and Washington, or Sixth and Washington. Admission is only $2. Children ages 12 and under are free! Approved parking venues for the event include the lot behind the Myers Building, the lot behind the Alamo, the ramp at 4th and Washington, the Old State Capitol Underground Garage and the Prairie Capitol Convention Center Garage at 7th and Washington.
