Pied Piper Architectural Walking Tour

Another event to celebrate National Historic Preservation Month is the Pied Piper Downtown Architectural Walking Tour on Wednesday, May 7 at 5:30 p.m. This free tour begins in front of the Lincoln-Herndon Law Office and lasts about 1 ½ hours.  Join Anthony Rubano of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency in this walking tour discussing the architectural styles, materials, and treatments that make up historic downtown Springfield. He will also talk about design successes and areas for improvement along the way. A reception will follow at The Widow at Windsor, 711 S. 5th Street. These tours will be held monthly May through October. This year’s tour dates are May 7, July 2, August 6, September 3, and October 1, 2008. Downtown Springfield, Inc. invites you to discover some interesting and little-known facts about our city’s unique architectural treasures. Designer Anthony Rubano of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency will lead a walking tour discussing the architectural styles, materials, and treatments that make up the Illinois Statehouse and the other governmental buildings surrounding. He will also talk about design successes and areas for improvement along the way. The tours will be held May 7 - October 1, 2008 on the first Wednesday of each month.

 

This free tour lasts approximately 90 minutes and begins in front of the Lincoln Herndon Law office on the South Old State Capitol Plaza. For more information, please call the Downtown Springfield, Inc. office at 544-1723.
