OUR MISSION

Downtown Springfield Inc. is the downtown business association (501c6) and nationally accredited Main Street organization dedicated to creating and supporting a vibrant neighborhood through collaboration, creativity, and leadership. Because a better Downtown means a stronger Springfield and Sangamon County.

GET INVOLVED

DSI has a robust volunteer corps working for downtown revitalization in these areas. Let us know you are interested in volunteering.

Supporting Our Small Shops: Providing a network for merchants to share best practices and collectively identify and reduce or eliminate barriers to retail success, and hosting merchant-focused events such as Sidewalk Sales and Holiday Walks;
Filling the Vacancies: Working with the City to speed upper-story rehab & use of empty commercial spaces; attracting new investors and projects; and serving as an active liaison between property owners, developers & current and potential tenants;
Wayfinding, Placemaking & Beautification: Creating and highlighting places where people want to gather in our beautiful downtown and adding the “wow” and the “weird,” including managing the ARTificiation murals and the Old Capitol Farmers Market;
Consumer Transportation: Increasing visitors’ ability to navigate downtown by slowing down traffic, eliminating parking confusion and adding great reasons to stop and linger;
Marketing the District: Spreading the good news about what is happening in our neighborhood to locals and tourists, through social media, our website, and media partners; and Planning the District: Developing and implementing plans to grow downtown as a walkable, residential neighborhood with an arts & culture focus.

HOW WE ARE FUNDED

DSI is not a government entity but a 501(c)6 non-profit association of downtown and area businesses who understand the benefits of a thriving downtown. Approximately 65% of our annual funding comes from businesses; 18% from individual supporters via fundraisers; and 17% from the City of Springfield. Some of our popular, ticketed fundraising events are the Friends of the Market Street Dinner, Art Alley, and our Annual Dinner celebration in January.
