On June 19th, a fire at 413 East Adams Street caused widespread destruction, significantly impacting the businesses within the building and the surrounding area.

The fire resulted in a total loss for The Cats’ Pyjamas Cat Cafe, Electric Quill, Moving Pillsbury Forward Art Exhibit, The Elf Shelf Books and Music, and the art created by Jac’s Oddities. Additionally, the adjacent building housing Café Moxo suffered major damage, leading to its indefinite closure and the need for rebuilding. Other businesses on Adams Street and around the corner on Old State Capitol Plaza were also affected by the fire.

Fundraisers and requests for community aid have been created to assist these small businesses in recovering from their losses. While insurance will cover much of the damage, it may not cover all expenses and emergency short-term aid is urgently needed.

The downtown businesses affected by the fire, along with those in the surrounding area who are helping, extend their heartfelt thanks to the community for their support and generosity during this challenging time.
