Adams Street Fire

Adams Street Fire

 Non-Monetary Needs
A fire that started on the 400 block of E. Adams St. Wednesday June 19th, 2024 caused the interior of a building to collapse and damaged several nearby structures. The building at 413-415 E. Adams will be demolished in the coming weeks and the several businesses that called it home are currently closed and looking for new locations. The Cat’s Pjyamas, a cat café that opened earlier this year, Electric Quill Tattoo, and The Elf Shelf Books & Music were all destroyed in the fire. The surrounding buildings have suffered damage as well and have been evacuated pending structural repair after demolition. Cafe Moxo as well as multiple residents from apartments are all also without a home, at least for now. Businesses in connected buildings such as the Wakery and Daisy Janes have been temporarily closed as well due to power loss, smoke, and water damage.

These businesses are part of the Adams Street District, collectively known as the #AdamsFamily, and those businesses along with the rest of Downtown Springfield and the community as a whole have been rallying in support.

A fund has been set up at Illinois National Bank, “Benefit for Businesses Affected by Adams Family Fire,” to help raise money for the impacted businesses. Donations can be made at any INB location or online with this GoFundMe link that will deposit to the INB fund. DSI will work with recipients to determine an equitable disbursement strategy.
