James Armstrong Presents the Mud Bugs
February 13 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Originating in southern Illinois in 1998 the Mud Bugs played hard edged blues rock. In this southern area it was still very popular at the time. After relocating to Springfield in 2002, Kit retooled the Bugs to adjust to local band market, which at that time took him away from blues to keep 4-5 musicians working. If I would have played just blues in early 2000 I wouldn’t have worked much. “Our mix of tunage was all over the place” from pop to country to beach tunes but we always mixed in blues. Unfortunately while the band worked, we got farther away from the blues. So in 2013 we decided collectively to take a much needed break. Kit Jones & Jim Chase started doing bluesy duo music, but missing a full band mix. So in 2018 after some bribery on Kit’s end he pulled everybody back together for rehearsals. We tightened up our four piece harmonies (unusual in blues) and tweaked the rhythm section. We defiantly do deep cut blues more than others as well as very familiar cuts from Robert Cray, Peter Green, Led Belly, Keb Mo’, Robert Johnson, Rare Earth, Eric Gales, Joe Bonamassa, Muddy Waters, John Mayall, John Lee Hooker, Little Walter, Gary Moore, Rick Derringer, several by Buddy Guy, Boz Scaggs, Fenton Robinson, Canned Heat, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Johnny Lang, Greg Allman, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Howlin’ Wolf, Jimmy Reed, all 3 Kings and we add in some R & B to make sure “Blues doesn’t have to be blue”.
Music Dancing and “Food & Drink Specials” from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at The Alamo. NO cover charge.
