Event Details

Join artist Nora Moore Lloyd and Curator of Art Douglas Stapleton for a discussion of Moore Lloyd’s work currently on exhibit in the Human/Nature exhibition at the Illinois State Museum. Human/Nature features multiple artists who explore how humans interact with their environment as a resource and the consequences of those interactions, both positive and negative. Nora Moore Lloyd, an enrolled member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Nation, creates artwork that focuses on Indigenous cultures, nature, and documenting community and family history through traditional storytelling and photography. In Human/Nature, Moore Lloyd’s work focuses on birchbark, wiigwaas in the Ojibwe language, an important part of Great Lakes Ojibwe (Anishinaabe) culture. Birchbark is used for many things including basketry, canoe making, and coverings for structures, and the Indigenous harvesting practice is rooted in forest management, conservation, and the continuity of Indigenous cultural expression and identity.Advanced registration is required at and space is limited.
