Carpenter Street Hotel

About

The original Carpenter Street Hotel opened its doors in February, 1997, primarily to cater to the patients and families visiting world-renowned Prairie Heart Institute at St. John’s Hospital and other healthcare facilities, including Memorial Medical Center and SIU School of Medicine. Since that time, we have become a preferred destination for all travelers visiting the Springfield area, whether for business, pleasure or both.

In the summer of 2010, Hotel Ventures Management, the premier hotel management company in the Midwest, became a business partner with an affiliate of Hospital Sisters Healthcare System as both the manager and co-owner of the Hotel. As you will see in the photo gallery, our facility has been fully-remodeled and now provides the most comfortable contemporary rooms and amenities that Springfield has to offer. We look forward to seeing you on your next visit.

At Carpenter Street Hotel, we go above and beyond in caring for our guests.

Dana Thomas House Foundation & Sumac Shop

About

The Dana-Thomas House (DTH) was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1902 for Susan Lawrence Dana, a forward-thinking socialite living in Springfield, Illinois. The home, the 72nd building designed by Wright, contains the largest collection of site-specific, original Wright art glass and furniture. Wright’s first “blank check” commission, the home has 35 rooms in the 12,000 square feet of living space which includes 3 main levels and 16 varying levels in all.

Rightfully regarded as a local treasure, the DTH is a gorgeous house museum. Following its acquisition of the House, the Illinois State Historic Preservation Agency undertook a major restoration project. The results yielded a beautifully preserved exle of Mr. Wright’s genius.

Beyond the essence of an architectural masterpiece of international significance, the house is a brilliant showcase of craftsmanship in glass doors, windows and light fixtures; terra cotta sculpture and an exquisite mural; it is the best preserved and most complete of Frank Lloyd Wright’s early “Prairie” houses.

Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway

About

The most famous road in the world first came into being in 1926 as part of the new numbered highway system and Chicago is where Route 66 begins

The United States Department of Transportation has designated certain US roads as National Scenic Byways because of their special significance to the American people. Route 66 in Illinois received that recognition in 2005. Our non-profit organization has the responsibility for the Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway and it is our mission to…”enhance and promote economic opportunities for each Illinois Route 66 community by preserving Illinois Route 66 Heritage and by sustaining and increasing heritage and cultural tourism…” We serve 90 communities in Illinois; from Chicago to the Chain of Rocks Bridge near Madison, IL. Most have a population of only 2,500 or less. We help attractions, small businesses, and communities take full advantage of their Route 66 resources to provide the best possible experience for visitors from around the world. We also provide information to travelers to help them plan their adventure down Route 66.

Whether it is helping a “mom &; pop” restaurant get new tuck pointing for their restaurant, aiding a small business with one employee in setting up free Google Services, or helping a traveler on Route 66 to find the best milkshake in Illinois, we are there to find a solution.
