
DSI MURAL ARTS PROGRAM
Designed to encourage public art that enhances community pride and celebrates local culture, the Downtown Springfield Mural Program will provide funding, guidance, and support to
artists and community partners.
DOWNTOWN SPRINGFIELD: A LIVING CANVAS
SELECTION CRITERIA
Applications will be reviewed based on the following:
• Artistic quality and originality
• Alignment with program goals (beautification, cultural celebration, engagement, safety, economic impact)
• Feasibility of the proposed project
• Community impact and engagement
• Applicant’s ability to complete the project on time and within budget
TIMELINE EXPECTATIONS
• Applications will be reviewed within 30 days of submission.
• Projects must begin within 60 days of approval, unless otherwise agreed upon.
• Murals should typically be completed within 90 days of the start date.
FUNDING
• Applicants may request up to $5,000 in funding support.
• Funding may be provided as reimbursement or partial advance (details provided upon approval).
• Receipts and documentation are required for reimbursement.
• Applicants are encouraged to secure additional support through sponsorships, grants, or in-kind donations.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND PUBLIC ART RIGHTS
• Artists retain copyright to their original work.
• By participating, artists grant Downtown Springfield Inc. and its partners a license to photograph, promote, and share the mural.
• The mural is considered public art and may be subject to ongoing public exposure.
YOUTH PARTICIPATION CLAUSE
If the applicant or artist is under 18, a parent or guardian must also sign the liability waiver to provide consent. Youth artists must be supervised by an adult sponsor or organization.
